HOOD // Article and covers EP…

Its no real secret that here at Wayside and Woodland the Leeds based HOOD are one of our favourite bands – ever. In collaboration with the excellent French online music blog Autres Direction (as part of a retrospective series of articles on the band entitled ‘This Is It, Forever / Hood 1990 – 2005) members of W&W were invited to record a selection of covers of HOOD songs. Whilst initially seeming like quite a daunting task, people worked swiftly and the final results were great.

This 5 track HOOD covers EP can be downloaded here and features exclusive reinterpretations from My Autumn Empire, The Toy Library, E.L Heath, Arc Vel and Part Timer.

02> EL Heath “Norfolk”
03> Arc Vel “You Show No Emotion At All”
04> The Toy Library “The Field Is Cut”
05> Part Timer “Years First Storm”

As an accompaniment to these covers, Benjamin Holton (epic45 // My Autumn Empire) wrote an article that discusses his first experience of HOOD’s music and the lasting effect and influence they have had on him over the years.

That can be read hereI Can’t Find My Brittle Youth by Benjamin Holton.

There are also other writings by staff at Autres Directions, Philip Buckle (Teamforest) and interviews with Richard Adams (HOOD).

We were very proud to be part of this retrospective – hope you enjoy the words and music…and big thanks to everyone involved, and Jerome for asking us…

…and thanks HOOD!

Preorder epic45’s Weathered + Stream ‘Leaving Traces’

Weathered
is the companion volume to epic45’s Weathering album (Sunday Times Album of the Week, July 2011). It sees the Staffordshire duo invite labelmates and contemporaries to literally weather the recordings they made for that record. Weathered will be released on Friday 6 April via Norman Records, with a digital release from Wayside & Woodland’s online shop to follow shortly after. It will be available from other retailers later in April.

Preorder Digipack CD from Norman Records

What if a song recorded today could be lost like a photograph, only to be rediscovered years later? Dusty and forgotten for years, warped, faded and torn. Like an old ‘78 discovered in an attic, its history as a physical object indelibly marked and inseparable from the original recording.

Contributing artists to Weathered include The Remote Viewer, The Gentleman Losers, Fieldhead, E.L. Heath, Jasper TX and Sarah Kemp of Lanterns on the Lake/ The Declining Winter.

‘Leaving Traces’ originally appears as a fragment of ‘People Say This Place Is Slowly Dying’ on Weathering. It features violin by Sarah Kemp.

More information on the companion volume to epic45’s Weathering on Monday, including a streamed track. Weathered features reworkings by friends and labelmates, including E.L. Heath, Jasper TX, The Gentlemen Losers and Fieldhead, as well as an exclusive new track.

My Autumn Empire II – Mastered

Today we set off at dawn, heading towards Nottingham where we’ve been mastering the next My Autumn Empire album.  We returned at dusk, as the fog settled over the snow-laden fields of Staffordshire.

P.Manasseh – ANA Now Available

ANA (W&W010), the new release from epic45 collaborator P.Manasseh, is now available to buy from Norman Records, in an edition of 200 CDs packaged in custom, handmade card sleeves. ANA sees the multi-instrumentalist working very much in isolation, crafting minimalist compositions that are an exploration of the way we see and interpret the world, an attempt to create sonic systems based on visual patterns and structures.

A digital version is planned for Spring. Stream ‘Moire’ below:
